Magnificent table of Italian work with micromosaics and views of Rome. Italy. 1870. The key advantage of the table is a magnificent, museum-made tabletop of Roman micro-mosaic with landscapes of the eternal city. Around the majestic square overlooking the Cathedral of Peter, a whole pantomime of Italian scenes unfolds: at the arch of Titus, in front of the Colosseum, at the picturesque ruins of the temples of the forum, around the temple of Vesta in the meat market. The majestic Pantheon Square and the tomb of Cecilius Metala. A picturesque sail against the backdrop of the Angel`s Castle, and the ancient grandeur of Michelangelo`s stairs on the Capitol. The center is framed by a whimsical grotesque, and along the edge of the table top is decorated with a labyrinth. which allows us to attribute the authorship to Cesare Roquejani, one of the leading mosaicists of the Vatican in the second half of the 19th century. He comes from a family of hereditary mosaic masters who have created masterpieces for the papacy since the end of the 18th century. Attribution is based on signature analogues of the master from private collections and a collection table from Sotheby`s auction in 2015.
