An elegant Belle Époque table lamp executed in porcelain and mounted in gilt bronze, created in the artistic manner of the Manufacture Nationale de Sèvres, whose aesthetic principles shaped French decorative arts of the late 19th century. The oval body is set against a deep cobalt blue ground characteristic of the manufactory’s tradition and is adorned with a central painted cartouche depicting a pastoral scene, rendered with exceptional miniature precision. Floral garlands, refined gilded detailing and an ornamented border emphasize the high level of decorative painting. The gilt bronze base with elegant sculptural modelling completes the harmonious composition.

Provenance: Private European collection.
At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, French decorative arts experienced a period of remarkable flourishing, largely shaped by the influence of the Manufacture Nationale de Sèvres, whose artistic standards served as a benchmark for Parisian workshops. The Sèvres canon incorporated the use of rich cobalt grounds, finely executed miniature painting, pastoral subjects and abundant gilding, deeply rooted in the academic traditions of the 18th century and revitalized within the Belle Époque aesthetic.
During this period, decorative vase-lamps combining fine porcelain and elaborate gilt bronze mounts became an essential element of formal interiors in urban mansions and bourgeois salons. Workshops sought not merely to replicate Sèvres models, but to reinterpret them, drawing inspiration from museum examples preserved in institutions such as the Musée national de céramique de Sèvres and the Louvre Museum.
The popularity of such objects reflects the era’s aspiration toward refined interior decoration, where aesthetic sophistication and the display of cultivated taste were paramount. The deep cobalt ground, miniature painting and meticulously crafted bronze mounts symbolized the highest level of decorative artistry and the visual richness of the period.
Good condition consistent with age. Minor natural wear to gilding and bronze elements. The painted decoration remains bright and well preserved. Originally conceived as an oil lamp and later professionally electrified, without compromising its decorative integrity.
