Round gold enamel powder box Violettes Paris circa 1860. On a noble, dark brown background with a golden net and antique grotesques, the lid depicts a preening nymph with a cupid adorning her hair. The vignette at the base depicts a flirtatious scene, apparently with the same cherub, dove and basket of flowers, again in pursuit of the escaping mistress. Labeled: Violettes Paris. On the inside of the rim there is a memorial date: April 18, 1880. Parisian gold hallmarks from 1838, corresponding to 750 standard, are on the bottom of the powder compact. Inside the lid there is an original mirror. Height: 3cm. length-5cm. Weight:73.94g
