Unique Russian silver vodka cup with enamels from Pavel Ovchinnikov. Moscow 1896.
The uniqueness of the cup lies in a combination rare for Russia: a clear functional geometry of historicism, decor of germination, formation, ascent on the eve of Art Nouveau and oriental heron motifs, a riot of flowers that came from the Chinese East. A typical recipe of early modernity for Europe, in Russia it rarely included an oriental flavor. It is understood and stylized in its own way in an epic and exotic manner. Acquaintance with Japan shows through in the motive of the rising sun and makes the glass a rare universal container for vodka and sake.
The outstanding pictorial plasticity of enamels is favorably combined with the brightness of the cloisonne belts, which makes this oriental motif very Russian on the eve of modernity.
Stamp: two-headed imperial eagle in a round shield, the inscription P. Ovchinnikov corresponding to the firm P.A. Ovchinnikov , the stamp of Moscow, the image of George the Victorious on a horse turned in the left-hand rhombus, the digital designation of the sample of silver 84 , the stamp of the assay master of the letter AS 1896.
