HISTORY AND DEVELOPMENT

The Nedmirov-Kolodkin trading house was founded in St Petersburg in the second half of the nineteenth century as a partnership combining manufacturing and commercial activities. The firm operated during a period of rapid expansion of the metropolitan jewellery market, focusing on silver objects for both everyday and ceremonial use. Production relied on in-house workshops as well as collaboration with skilled silversmiths working under the firm’s supervision.

TITLES, AWARDS AND COMMISSIONS

The firm did not hold the official title of Supplier to the Imperial Court; however, its works were widely represented in private commissions and the commercial circulation of St Petersburg. Nedmirov-Kolodkin pieces were intended for the urban market, the gift segment, and representative purposes, securing the firm a stable reputation and commercial success.

ARTISTIC SPECIFICITY AND TECHNIQUES

The firm’s output included table silver, serving pieces, snuffboxes, cigarette cases, and small decorative objects. A defining feature was the extensive use of enamel, primarily cloisonné and champlevé, characterised by a stable and refined colour palette. Stylistically, the works gravitated toward Historicism and early Art Nouveau, combining ornamental motifs with functional clarity of form.
