Ce vase a été réalisé à une époque où Tiffany & Co. dominait les arts décoratifs américains, tout en s’inspirant de l’attrait occidental croissant pour l’esthétique japonaise. Les motifs de sakura et d’oiseaux évoquent les estampes ukiyo-e et les arts décoratifs de l’époque Meiji, très prisés dans les cercles artistiques américains depuis le XIXe siècle.

La qualité de l’argent sterling et la finesse de la ciselure témoignent du savoir-faire des ateliers Tiffany sous la direction de John C. Moore II. La lettre M et les numéros de commande permettent de dater l’œuvre précisément de 1928. Des œuvres similaires figurent dans les collections permanentes du Metropolitan Museum of Art et du Museum of Fine Arts de Boston.

The first store opened in Manhattan under the name Tiffany, Young and Ellis, but was renamed in 1853 when Charles Tiffany took over. Since then, Tiffany & Co. were discovered in many countries of the world. The central and oldest store is located in Manhattan, at the corner of Fifth Avenue and 57th Street.Charles Lewis Tiffany and John F. Young began their business by selling office supplies. It was only in the 1840s that gold and silver items appeared in the company′s assortment. In 1837, the company began to acquire branded elements that are the brand′s hallmark to this day. First of all, this is the corporate color - a special shade of blue and the traditional packaging - Tiffany Blue Box. The first catalog of the brand - Blue Book (Blue Book), was published in 1845.
