A refined pair of wine ewers made of transparent cut crystal with diamond and radial cutting, mounted in artistic silver settings. The disc-shaped bodies are decorated with complex geometric cutting forming radiating star-like compositions that create a striking play of light across the crystal surface.
The silver mounts display finely worked decorative plasticity. Each ewer features a shaped neck with a hinged lid, an elegant pouring spout and a curved decorative handle with volute elements. The interior and selected exterior parts of the silver mounts are gilt, creating a rich contrast with the clear crystal.
Around the body runs a wide openwork silver band decorated with relief ornaments of stylized flowers and scrolling foliage. The vessels stand on circular bases with engraved decorative borders. The combination of heavy cut crystal and finely crafted silver gives the objects a ceremonial character and makes them striking elements of formal table service.
Hallmarks: Silver standard mark “800”; German national silver hallmarks; production numbers “53419” and “53416”.

During the first half of the 20th century, German decorative arts workshops actively developed the production of refined tableware combining cut crystal and artistic silver mounts. Important centres of such craftsmanship included Pforzheim, Hanau and Schwäbisch Gmünd, where numerous silversmiths worked in close collaboration with glass manufacturers from Bohemia and Bavaria.
The silver standard “800” was widely used in Germany following the regulations introduced in the late 19th century and remained the most common standard for decorative and table silver well into the 20th century. Objects of this type were designed for wine or liqueur service and formed part of elegant ceremonial table settings.
Deep diamond-cut crystal reflects the traditions of the Bohemian school of glass cutters, renowned for its intricate geometric patterns and brilliant light effects. The silver mounts with vegetal ornament and volute forms reveal the influence of Historicism and Neoclassicism, stylistic tendencies characteristic of European decorative arts at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.
Pairs of vessels such as these were often produced as part of refined table ensembles and were intended to emphasize the prestige of the dining service as well as the high artistic quality of European metal and glass craftsmanship.
The objects are in good collector’s condition. The silver shows light natural patina and minor traces of use. Gilding inside and on selected exterior elements remains preserved with signs of age. The crystal shows no visible chips or cracks. The hinged lids function correctly.
