An exquisite miniature silver kovsh created in the Moscow workshop of Fedor Rückert for the firm of Karl Fabergé, representing a rare example of small-scale jewel-like silver from the Late Russian Art Nouveau period. The compact rounded bowl with softly profiled sides is complemented by a characteristic peltate-form handle decorated with vivid polychrome cloisonné enamel.

The ornamental scheme is structured around alternating geometric motifs: red enamel lozenges and cobalt-blue oval medallions enclosed within fine wire partitions. The pale turquoise ground displays a subtle granular texture enhancing the depth and brilliance of the enamel surface. The interior is fully gilded, creating a refined contrast with the cool sheen of silver and intensifying the decorative presence.

Such works, produced through the collaboration between Fabergé and Rückert, were distinguished by exceptional technical precision and rich chromatic expression.

Marks: Maker’s initials “F.R.” in Latin letters; firm’s mark “K. Fabergé” beneath the Imperial double-headed eagle - warrant of appointment to the Imperial Court; Moscow Assay Office mark, 1908 - 1917; standard “88”.

Dimensions: Length 3.8 cm; width 2.9 cm; height 0.7 cm.

Weight: 10.54 g.

Condition: Good. Partial wear to gilding, enamel largely intact with no significant losses, minor surface wear to the underside consistent with age.

The Moscow workshop of Fedor Ivanovich Rückert occupies a distinguished and independent position within the history of early twentieth-century Russian enamel art. Working in close and sustained collaboration with the House of Fabergé, Rückert emerged as one of the leading enamel masters of his generation, celebrated for his exceptional command of cloisonné enamel on silver. His works are instantly recognisable for their vivid chromatic palette, precision of wire partitions and remarkable clarity of ornamental rhythm.

In contrast to the St Petersburg ateliers, where guilloché enamel over engine-turned gold dominated production, the Moscow workshops cultivated a distinct aesthetic vocabulary rooted in Old Russian, medieval and Byzantine decorative traditions. Rückert’s production reflects a conscious revival of historical ornament interpreted through the lens of Russian Art Nouveau. Bold turquoise grounds, deep cobalt reserves and ruby-red geometric motifs became hallmarks of his artistic language.

Objects bearing both the Fabergé mark and Rückert’s initials represent a clearly identifiable and highly collectible category within Russian Imperial decorative arts. These works demonstrate a synthesis of refined court taste and traditional craftsmanship, uniting technical virtuosity with strong national stylistic character. Comparable enamel kovshes and salts are preserved in major Moscow museum collections, where they illustrate the high artistic standards achieved by enamel workshops at the turn of the century.

The period 1908 - 1917 marks the final flourishing phase of Fabergé production prior to the political upheavals of the Russian Revolution. Works created during these years reflect a mature artistic language, exceptional technical control and increasing refinement of scale. Today, such pieces are regarded as significant examples of Imperial Russian silver and occupy a secure and prominent place within the international market for Russian decorative arts.

Even surface patina overall. Minor abrasions and tiny edge chips along the lower rim. Enamel stable with no evidence of restoration. No structural damage observed.
