An image of the Kazan Mother of God with the Christ Child, executed in the traditional iconography of one of the most revered types of Russian Orthodox art. The Virgin is depicted in a characteristic three-quarter turn with a gently inclined head, emphasizing an image of intercession and mercy. The Christ Child is shown frontally, with a blessing gesture of the right hand and a scroll in the left, in accordance with canonical tradition.
The painting is executed in tempera on gesso over a wooden panel. The background is entirely gilded, with finely worked repoussé ornament forming a radiant decorative field around the figures. The borders are adorned with polychrome vegetal ornament. The palette is based on a combination of rich reds, greens, and ochre tones, characteristic of 19th-century Russian icon painting. Inscriptions are rendered in traditional Church Slavonic script.
Dimensions: Height 22 cm, width 17.5 cm.
Condition: In satisfactory collectible condition. Natural signs of age are present, including light craquelure of the paint layer and minor edge wear, not affecting the overall integrity of the icon.
