Historical information: Albert Rieger (1834–1905) was an Austrian artist best known for his dark, muted landscapes depicting mountains, waterways, and forests. Rieger was born on May 6, 1834 in Trieste, Italy, the son of the renowned artist Giuseppe Rieger, with whom he initially studied art. From 1838, Albert lived in Vienna, where he was inspired by the surrounding landscapes and nature to create his masterpieces. The artist specialized in realistic mountain, sea and rural landscapes, characterized by detailed elaboration, special attention to light and masterful use of contrasts of shadow and light.
