Property of an Italian private collection. Snuffbox made of gold and enamel. Hanau, 1810-1815. Rectangular shape with beveled corners. The lid is decorated with painted enamel with a scene of Diogenes searching for the truth. The Greek philosopher climbed out of the barrel and during the day, with a fathom lamp, searched for the truth. The authorship of the composition is attributed to Antoine Carter. The miniature is framed by gold, white and black enamel belts, on the edge of which are fields with golden grape leaves coming out of cornucopias. The bases and sides are decorated with dark blue guilloche enamel, with a diamond pattern. The corners are decorated with stylized falling leaves. On the inside of the lid, subsequently, a gift inscription in Cyrillic was engraved. Presented to E.I.V. Tsarevich Konstantin Pavlovich 1826 Cato of Shabulsky. I pass it on to my grandson Pavel Shabyulsky. November 6, 1863 The hallmarks are rubbed off, but the traces of the gear are preserved. Length 9.6 cm. Weight: 159 gr.
